Management Accountant – City Football

The Management Accountant will play a key role in supporting the charity’s financial health and sustainability by providing timely and accurate financial information, analysis, and reporting. They will support the charity in making informed financial decisions to meet its objectives, manage budgets, and ensure compliance with relevant regulatory and charity sector standards.

The role will support the Head of Finance and Governance with all aspects of financial accounting and reporting of CITC and the trading subsidiary company in the preparation of budgeting, month and year-end closing, management accounts, financial and management reporting, premier league capability code of practice annual submission and support year-end audit to ensure that all statutory compliances are met.

Accountabilities

  1. Financial Planning and Budgeting: Assist in the preparation of the charity’s annual budget and strategic financial plans. Work closely with department heads to develop, monitor, and review budgets and forecasts. Provide financial advice to budget holders to support effective financial management.
  2. Management Reporting: Perform month-end and year-end closing. Prepare monthly management accounts, variance analysis, and reports for senior management and the Board of Trustees. Coordinate the preparation of reports and presentations on the Key Performance Indicators across the CITC. Develop clear, insightful financial reports and dashboards tailored to different stakeholder needs. Provide commentary on financial performance, highlighting trends, risks, and opportunities. In addition to the preparation of the annual report of the CITCWork closely alongside the Communications Officer to execute a strategic youth-led approach to the charity’s digital content.
  3. Financial Analysis and Decision Support: Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making, including cost-benefit analysis, funding proposals, and project evaluation and efficiency. Provide accurate financial models and forecasts to support strategic planning and resource allocation. Support grant and project accounting, ensuring that restricted funds are tracked and used in compliance with donor requirements.Input into reporting documents for digital channels, on a monthly basis to help enable analysis and recommendations for engagement and awareness growth alongside the Communications Officer.
  4. Financial Systems and Processes: Maintain and improve financial systems and processes to ensure robust financial controls and efficient operations. Review and ensure timely and accurate reconciliations, including bank, payroll, income, and expenditure accounts. Support the implementation of new financial software or tools where required.
  5. Cash Flow and Treasury Management: Monitor and manage the charity’s cash flow, prepare and monitor cash budget and forecast, ensuring sufficient liquidity to meet operational needs. Manage banking relationships and oversee the charity’s investment portfolio in line with the charity’s financial policies.
  6. Compliance and Audit: Assist with the preparation for the annual audit and liaise with external auditors as required. Ensure the charity complies with relevant financial regulations, including charity commission guidelines, tax, and VAT requirements. Maintain and update financial policies and procedures in line with best practices. Support relevant work that may be required as part of audit recommendations to progress action plans and continuously improve the financial and business processes.
  7. Team Support and Development: Provide training and support to non-financial staff and budget holders on financial systems, policies, and procedures. Support the Head of Finance and Governance in ad-hoc projects and initiatives as required.
  8. Ensuring that CITC’s Safeguarding policy and procedures are embedded to the highest standard across the team. Work to ensure that safeguarding practices and principles are adhered to, ensuring our legal and moral obligations towards the framework.
  9. Ensuring that all CITC and CFG policies and procedures are adhered to, enabling high quality provision to be maintained

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Part-qualified (CIMA, ACCA, AAT, or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in management accounting, preferably within the charity or non-profit sector.
  • Strong financial analysis and reporting skills / project profitability reporting with attention to detail.
  • Competent in the use of word, excel spreadsheets and power-point presentations and reports.
  • Good knowledge of financial systems and software (QuickBooks).
  • Good understanding of financial procedures for accounts closing, sales, purchase and general ledger journals.
  • Proactive and solutions-focused with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Collaborative team player, willing to support others and share knowledge.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Desirable

  • Charity sector experience is highly desirable.
  • Good Knowledge of charity accounting principles SORP (FRS 102).
