Security Measures Delivery Manager – House of Commons

The Role

The jobholder will manage and develop the Security Measures Delivery Team, working closely with the Contract and Performance Manager. These two teams report into the Head of the Members’ Security Measures team and are responsible for the delivery of physical and technical/electrical security measures to MPs’ homes and offices, through a managed contract.

Some of the responsibilities for this role include:

  • Act as a key point of liaison between Members, their staff, suppliers, stakeholders and police to facilitate access to security measures in a timely way. Ensure decision-making is robust and clear, with the ability to hold conversations with gravitas, influence and sound understanding.
  • Work with external suppliers to manage the process for Members to obtain recommended security measures, services and devices. Support ongoing or refresher training on security devices as requested or required, ensure that devices are being used effectively and are providing value for money.
  • Manage the Security Measures Delivery Team to ensure that Members are being proactively supported through a customer-focused delivery model. Support other managers and wider team members as required.
  • Represent the MSSS at internal and external meetings including with third party stakeholders/suppliers.
  • Lead on enabling functions including financial processes and auditable vetting records

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

  • Experience and Knowledge | Experience of working in a security-related discipline, allied with an in-depth knowledge of physical or personal security principles and the ability to deliver risk-based and threat informed mitigations.
  • Leadership | Ability to lead and manage small teams, with experience of setting realistic objectives, monitoring performance, giving feedback and supporting development. Motivate the team, whilst upholding the principles of diversity, equality and inclusion, ensuring that everyone is, at all times, treated with dignity, courtesy and respect.
  • Communication | Effective, clear and concise written and oral communication skills; explains complex and technical information in understandable and meaningful ways to multiple and diverse stakeholders; manages ambiguity and balances differing interests with tact and diplomacy. Strong presentation delivery to senior stakeholders and partners and in a challenge/performance environment.
  • Stakeholder Management | Demonstrable ability to establish authority and credibility quickly, to build and maintain confident and collaborative relationships with colleagues with based on trust and mutual respect – and to use logic, reasoning, empathy and tenacity to persuade, influence and challenge people at all levels. Consistently negotiate, influence and achieve positive outcomes for Parliament. Understands the landscape and adapts the communication style to achieve the best result.
  • Problem Solving | An ability to solve complex problems under pressure, think creatively and exercise sound judgement when considering a range of people issues.
