Gardener – US Embassy

The incumbent is responsible for high-quality maintenance and enhancement of the landscapes of the U.S. Embassy in London and of other U.S.-government owned properties such as the Ambassador’s residence, Winfield House, and the Deputy Chief of Mission’s (DCM) residence, Wychwood House, as well as properties leased on a short-term basis. The incumbent is required to deliver work of an exceptional horticultural standard and maintain the appearance of all landscapes so that they are pristine and presented to the highest standard. The incumbent must possess exceptional gardening skills, especially vast knowledge of year-round cycle of plantings in different gardens of varying sizes and purposes.

Requirements:

All selected candidates must be able to obtain and hold a security clearance.

All selected candidates will be subject to a background investigation and may be subject to a pre-employment medical exam.
Selected candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time upon receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Education Requirements:

Education: Formal training to National Diploma Level 3 in Horticulture or a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 3 in Horticulture, an equivalent Horticulture qualification is mandatory.

National Proficiency Test Council certificate of competence in the use of pesticides, PA I/PA6 is mandatory.

Recognized national qualifications in the safe use of power tools and heavy machinery s mandatory.

Qualifications:

Experience: Three years of Horticultural experience within a large public/private park or estate is required.
